Our sponsored run 2007 A short report by English E-Kurs 7a/e
Our sponsored run was on May 25, 2007. About 483 runners ran many rounds of 1 km each. We call this distance the “Voerder Meile”. There were not only kids from the school, but also teachers, friends and parents. Mrs. Dalka ran 17 rounds, Mr. Rinn ran 15 and Mr. Kronau and Mr. Schuster ran 10 rounds. Tobias and max from class 10 ran 20 and more rounds. That was a real record! In our English class the pupils ran between 2 and 17 rounds. It was a warm and sunny day, so we were thirsty. The ladies from the Weiberwirtschaft ( a women’s centre in our town) gave the runners water and apple drinks for free. Children who didn´t run, sat on the benches and on the grass and didn’t get any drinks. Every runner had a sponsor and the sponsor must now pay for every round. He or she can pay0,10 € or 1 € per round. They pay as much as they want. After each round we got a stamp on our arm. (They said: “fantastic”, “terrific”, “prima” and “weiter so” in English or German.) After the run we had to some older students in the “office” how many rounds we had and got our yellow papers back. On these papers were the starting number and name of the runner, the sponsors’ names, the number of rounds and the final sum. Nina from our class got 15 €, Mrs. Dalka got 195 € from her sponsors. Now the kids, friends and parents have given much money, so the school can buy new things for the playgrounds, e.g. a volleyball net. Our sponsored run is a special day in our school because it is not every year and it is much fun. It was a hot, hard, but nice event and it would be great if we did it every year. THANK YOU to all runners, sponsors and, of course, to the Weiberwirtschaft. The final sum will be shown here in a few days.
